Advancements in understanding dust production from AGB stars

Flavia Dell'Agli

Low- and intermediate-mass stars are significant contributors to cosmic dust in the Universe. During the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) phase, the cool, dense winds of these stars provide ideal conditions for the condensation of dust grains. Over the past decade, there has been extensive research into the types, sizes, and quantities of dust grains that AGB stars inject into the interstellar medium. In this review, I will discuss the key findings from both theoretical studies and the latest observational results, including those from the JWST.
