The Large Magellanic Cloud in S-Band: Literature Review, Full Sky Simulations, and New SKAMPI Observations

The SKAMPI telescope, designed as a prototype for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), offers a new perspective on the southern sky in the S-band. This study presents new observational data from SKAMPI, focusing on the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). We compare the spectral and morphological characteristics of the LMC obtained from SKAMPI with existing literature and full-sky simulation data, including models from Cosmoglobe. Our analysis reveals discrepancies between observations and current simulation-based foreground models. This work highlights the potential of SKAMPI data to enhance our understanding of radio sky foregrounds and improve future observational strategies.
